Welcome to the
Immigrant Visa Section
OVERVIEW
An immigrant visa is required of anyone who wishes to enter the US to reside there permanently, whether or not that person plans to seek employment in the US. US law provides for the issuance of immigrant visas in four broad categories: Immediate Relatives, Family Relationships, Employment, and Diversity Visas (also known as the “green card lottery”). In most cases, except the Diversity Visa, you cannot petition for your own immigrant visa. Someone must file on the applicant's behalf. To learn more about the various categories of permanent residence, click on the appropriate section on the left.
