U.S. EMBASSY  WARDEN MESSAGE

December 6, 2007

U.S. Embassy Jakarta
U.S. Consulate General Surabaya
U.S. Consulate Medan

The U.S. Embassy Jakarta and the U.S. Consulate General Surabaya would like to inform American citizens living in Indonesia that with the U.S. presidential nominating season fast approaching, it is time for Americans living overseas to register to vote and request ballots.  We encourage you to act now so that your opinion is heard – not only in the November 2008 presidential and general elections, but also in the presidential primary and state primary elections.

The official U.S. Government website for overseas absentee voting assistance is the Federal Voting Assistance Program (FVAP) website www.fvap.gov. The FVAP website has a wealth of information about absentee voting, including the state-specific instructions for completing the Federal Post Card Application form (FPCA), links to state and local officials, and a downloadable emergency ballot for use by those who register in time but fail to receive an official ballot.

To register to vote and/or apply for an absentee ballot, you can use the Federal Post Card Application (FPCA). The FPCA is accepted by all states and territories as an application for registration and for absentee ballot. The FPCA is postage-paid in the U.S. mail system, including the Military Postal System, and State Department Pouch mail. An online version of the FPCA is available at the FVAP website, www.fvap.gov. Absentee Ballots and Registration Requests are also available in the Consular Section at the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta.

For voting announcement updates, please visit http://www.fvap.gov/pubs/releases.html

The Voting Assistance Officer at the US Embassy in Jakarta is also always available to answer questions about absentee voting.  To contact the Voting Assistance Officer, call (6221) 3435-9055 or send an e-mail to VoteJakarta@state.gov

Americans living and traveling in Indonesia are urged to register and update their contact information with the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta, U.S. Consulate General in Surabaya, or U.S. Consular Agency in Bali.  Registration facilitates the U.S. Mission’s contact with Americans in emergency situations, and may be done on line and in advance of travel.  Information on registering can be found at the U.S. Department of State’s Consular Affairs website at http://travelregistration.state.gov and at the Embassy’s website at http://jakarta.usembassy.gov.  All Travel Warnings, Public Announcements and recent warden messages are posted on the Embassy website.

The Embassy is located at Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan No. 4-5, Jakarta; the 24-hour telephone number is 62-21-3435-9000.  The telephone number of the U.S. Consulate General in Surabaya is 62-31-295-6400; the number for the U.S. Consulate in Medan is 62-61-415-2200; the number for the U.S. Consular Agency in Bali is 62-21-361-233-605.
