| | Transmitting U.S. Citizenship To a Child Born Outside of the U.S. All citizenship applicants are seen by appointment only. Book an appointment when you have assembled all the following, required documents. Consular Report of Birth Abroad (FS-240) (CRBA): U.S. citizen parents may transmit their citizenship to a child born outside of the U.S. Please apply by appointment in person, Monday to Friday, not on Indonesian/U.S. holidays at https://evisaforms.state.gov/acs/default.asp?postcode=JAK&appcode=1 . Please expect 2 hours or more of initial in-person processing by the parent (s). Complete applications will be processed and the CRBA will be ready for pick-up after 7 workdays. Incomplete applications will not be processed until you provide all required documents. Civil records must bear the original seal, stamp or signature of the official government custodian of that record; "certified true copies," hospital or religious records, notarized or illegible copies are unacceptable.
Consular Report of Birth Abroad (FS-240) is only
available if the child was born overseas, is under 18, and out of the
U.S.
Certificate of
Citizenship (N600
and
N600K),
filed with USCIS in the U.S.:
- A child born
outside of the U.S. with a claim to U.S. citizenship but who is now
inside the U.S. can only apply by filing a
N-600
at USCIS inside the U.S.
- A child with a claim to
U.S. citizenship through his/her grandparents, because his/her
parents do not meet the transmission requirements, can apply by
filing a
N-600K at USCIS in the U.S.
A first time applicant for U.S. citizenship who resides in Indonesia but is over 18 applies for a passport, not a CRBA. The same proof of parent(s)' required
physical presence
in the U.S. before the child's birth must be submitted. For details on citizenship please see http://travel.state.gov/law/citizenship/citizenship_782.html. The following list is not all inclusive and we may request further evidence as necessary: - Application for Consular Report of Birth (DS-2029),
follow these instructions.
- To apply for a Social Security Number please see http://ssa.gov/ssnumber for downloadable forms and instructions;
- Child's official birth certificate stating the child's full name, both parents' names, date/place of birth, and date of registration;
- Parents' marriage certificate, if married;
- Evidence of parents' U.S. citizenship and identity. Either a valid or an expired U.S. passport, U.S. birth certificate (www.cdc.gov/nchs/howto/w2w/w2welcom.htm) or U.S. naturalization/citizenship certificate (http://www.uscis.gov/);
- Parents' current ID containing personal data and photo;
- Divorce decrees or death certificates terminating any prior marriages of the parents;
- Fee of USD 65. Payable only in Indonesian Rupiah cash equivalent or American Express, Diners Club, Discover, Master Card, and
Visa credit cards. We cannot accept USD cash.

- Proof of parent(s)' required
physical presence
in the U.S. before the child's birth, for a certain period of time as required by law, with evidence.
- Typed or printed statement, signed and dated by the applicant, listing the parents' names and places/dates of U.S. physical presence.
- Prepaid, self addressed courier mailer if you or a designated will not pick up in person;
- Any document not in English must be accompanied by a complete, signed and dated translation annotated: "I certify that this is a true and complete translation from x language to English". Notarization is unneeded.
- Photocopy of each document for each child, or USD 1 per document that we photocopy.
- If evidence is
inconsistent we may offer relationship DNA testing, see
instructions.
If a U.S. Citizen Parent Cannot Transmit Citizenship to a Child Born Abroad then that child may receive U.S. citizenship from a U.S. citizen grandparent by following these procedures, only within the U.S., http://www.uscis.gov/. Additional Requirements for a Child's First Passport. Please see the Passport Wizard at http://travel.state.gov/passport/forms/forms_847.html for the DS-11: Your child is not required to apply for a passport at the same time as the FS-240, but many applicants choose to do so to save a later trip to the embassy. If you wish to submit both applications on the same day, please bring: - Your child;
- If the child is under 16, both parents' consent, see Special Requirements for Children Under 16;
- DS-11, applicants 16 and over must sign their own application;
- Proof of U.S. citizenship, either a U.S. birth certificate, naturalization certificate or FS-240;
- Passport Fee. Payable only in Indonesian Rupiah cash equivalent or American Express, Diners Club, Discover,
Master Card, and Visa credit cards. We cannot accept USD cash. See Current Information on Passport Fees;
- Two front view, identical 2x2" photos on a white background taken within 6 months;
- Prepaid, self addressed courier mailer if you or a designated will not pick up in person;
It takes 2 weeks minimum to get a passport outside of the U.S. There is no expeditious passport service for a higher fee as is offered inside the U.S. Many countries require that a passport be valid for 6 months after entry. Please apply well in advance of intended travel.
