Passports & Citizenship

We see passport applicants by appointment only.  Book an appointment when you have assembled all the following, required documents.  Only properly documented U.S. citizens or U.S. nationals may obtain U.S. passports.

Please see Passport Services and Information for general information before proceeding.  Please see the Passport Wizard at http://travel.state.gov/passport/forms/forms_847.html to determine the proper application for your situation.

It usually takes only 7-10 days to get a passport here.  All passports are physically prepared in the U.S. and returned to us by courier, then made available to the applicant for pickup.  There is no expeditious processing for a higher fee as is offered to passport applicants inside the U.S.  Many countries require a passport valid for 6 months for entry.  Please apply well in advance of your intended travel or passport’s expiration.

Americans may apply for a credit card sized, laminated passport card, see http://travel.state.gov/passport/ppt_card/ppt_card_3926.html for land and water travel between the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Bermuda or the Caribbean, and a convenient identity card.  Air travel, and all travel to other destinations, still requires a passport book, see http://travel.state.gov/passport/get/get_840.html.

Dual Nationality:  U.S. law does not prohibit dual nationality, but an American may jeopardize his/her U.S. citizenship by performing an expatriating act.  A U.S. citizen who holds other citizenship may generally retain U.S. citizenship.  Determination of dual nationality can only be made by applying for a U.S. passport or registration, not by phone or mail.  Please see www.travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_1753.html.

Renunciation:  We accept an application to renounce U.S. citizenship for a decision in Washington DC, which takes several months.  Please see www.travel.state.gov/law/citizenship/citizenship_776.html, and contact us by mail or fax for correct forms and information beforehand.

Registration at https://travelregistration.state.gov/ibrs/ allows us to better assist Americans in an emergency and keep you informed of news related to travel anywhere overseas.
