3. It is prohibited to produce, import or distribute food that:

  • Is putrid, repugnant, dirty, decayed or decomposed;
  • Contains diseased vegetable or animal substances;
  • Contains or has present more parts or excrements of insects and rodents than the maximum limit;
  • Contains or has present more pesticides residue or other insecticides than the maximum limit;
  • Contains more poisonous chemicals, minerals or metalloid, or additives than the maximum limit;
  • Contains more pathogenic microorganisms than the maximum limit;
  • Is unfit for human consumption; and
  • Is harmful or affects human health.

4. After the registration has been approved, the Ministry of Health will issue a Registration Number  preceded by the letters ML. The registration number must be clearly marked on the label of the food. (Please note, you may print the ML number on the label or place stickers on the product.)


C. LABELING and ADVERTISING MUST MEET REQUIREMENTS

  1. All food distributed in Indonesia must have labels and sentences or words used on the label must be in Indonesian or English by using Latin letters. (Please note that the new food law will require Indonesian on all labels. We do not know how quickly this will go into effect and how thoroughly this will be enforced.)

  1. The label must contain the following information:
  • Name of food and/or brand name;
  • Composition, except for food with composition generally known to the public;
  • Net contents or net weight;
  • Name and address of food producer, distributor or importer (including name of city and country of origin); and
  • Registration number.

  1. Certain foods must be labeled with additional information:
  • Production code (lot identification);
  • Expiration date must be declared for the perishable food as determined by the Minister
  • Storage instructions (for food requiring, special storage conditions, such as milk products)
  • Instructions for use (for foods which need to be prepared prior to consumption)
  • Nutritional value
  • Specific wording or statements indicating the contents for the following food only:
          - sweetened condensed milk (e.g., "Warning! Not suitable for infants                                low six months old!")
          - food containing material of pig origin
          - milk and food containing milk, baby food and commercially sterilized canned food (e.g. unsalted butter, contains no milk, reconstituted cheese, very low sodium, light syrup)
