U.S. Embassy Officials Break Fasting with
Elementary and High School Students
September 26 - U.S. Embassy Jakarta officials shared an iftaar dinner with children, parents, and teachers from SDN 3 Pondok Kacang, SDN 1 Pondok Kacang Timur, and SMP Pondok Aren 3 in Pondok Aren, Tangerang. The U.S. Working together with the Nurani Dunia Foundation, the U.S. Embassy visitors were entertained with a color guard (baris-berbaris) performance, singing and poetry by students before breaking fast. In turn, U.S. Embassy representatives sang American children’s songs together with the children.


U.S. Launches “Democracy Video Challenge”
Jakarta, September 17 –The U.S. Department of State is asking citizens around the world -- including Indonesia -- to express what democracy means to them personally in a short video. The “Democracy Video Challenge” is a competition for the best video completing the phrase “Democracy is…” Winners receive an all-expense paid trip to the U.S. to visit Washington, D.C., New York City, and Hollywood to screen their winning videos, get exposure to the U.S. film and television industry, as well as meet with democracy advocates from the government, the media and civil society. U.S. Embassy Marks “World Literacy Day” with Book Donations
Jakarta, September 10 - U.S. Ambassador Cameron R. Hume helped load some of the 200 educational book sets the Embassy is donating to 100 universities throughout Indonesia. The donations help commemorate “World Literacy Day.” The books -- worth over $250,000 -- include 100 World Book Encyclopedias and 100 “Ambassador Sets” of books on U.S. history, culture, literature, science, math, and biographies.
