The U.S. Embassy Jakarta is seeking an AEFM (Appointment Eligible Family Member) for the position of Consular Associate at the Consular (CONS).
BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION:
This position is responsible for the processing of biometric and advisory clearances for non-immigrant and immigrant visa applicants. This includes collecting biometrics, drafting, tracking and processing replies to Security Advisory opinions, and other visa functions that can only be performed by a cleared American. Incumbent will oversee post’s public information program, including maintaining the warden system, developing a newsletter for American citizen, information for visa applicants and post’s website. The incumbent will also assist with non-adjudicatory ACS casework, maintain Post’s Category I visa refusal files and monitor classified cable traffic. The position requires a Secret security clearance.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
NOTE: All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.
1. Having knowledge and strong understanding of US Immigration Law, procedures and policies. Completion of the Con-Gen Course at FSI is a requirement for the position. Due to changes in visa processing the applicant needs to have completed ConGen Course or work in a consular section after June 1, 2002.
2. Appointment eligible family member (AEFM) of U.S. Government employee having or able to receive Secret security clearance
3. U.S. high school graduation and at least one to two years of relevant post-secondary (technical or university) education minimum.
4. Two to three years administrative, paralegal or government position required.
5. On the job training to know all systems and regulations.
6. Fluent speaker of English (Level V) is required. Indonesian desirable.
7. Computer skills required in keyboarding and data entry with a high level of accuracy; mechanical skills in order to operate specialized office equipment; numerical skills in order to compile visa statistics and workload information is required. Strong public interaction skills for dealing with Indonesian visa applicants and American citizens. Experience with Excel spreadsheet desired.

SELECTION CRITERIA
1. Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, and residency status in determining successful candidacy.
2. Current employed AEFMs who hold a FMA appointment are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment.
3. The candidate must have at least nine months remaining at post from the closing date of the vacancy.
