February 19, 2008 Bandung -- The United States Embassy in Jakarta, in partnership with Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), announces the opening of a new American Corner on Tuesday, February 19, 2008. The ITB American Corner will serve as a resource for students, faculty and other visitors interested in comprehensive, authoritative information about U.S. culture, government, history, and studying in the United States. Operating hours for the ITB American Corner, located in the university’s Central Library, are Monday-Friday 08:00-15:30. In celebration of the ITB American Corner opening, the U.S. Embassy proudly presents Sacred Legacy: Edward S. Curtis and the North American Indian, an exhibition of vintage photographs from the early 20th century. The exhibition’s sixty-one museum-quality prints celebrate Native American peoples, and their history and culture. The exhibition pays homage to the famed photographer/ethnographer Edward S. Curtis, and illustrates the broad and extraordinary diversity among the North American tribes. Most prints in the exhibition are re-creations of an extremely rare process originally employed by Curtis for his most prized prints. The Sacred Legacy exhibit will be open for viewing at ITB’s Central Library from Tuesday, February 19 (12:00) through Friday, February 29, 2008. Viewing hours are Monday-Friday 08:00-15:30. Admission is free. For additional information, please contact Ibu Nanan Hasanah, Director of the ITB Central Library, at 0812-244-3527, or Dr. Boy Kombaitan, Vice Rector for Communications, ITB, at 022-2500-935. More information is available at the U.S. Embassy website at http://usembassyjakarta.org/SacredLegacy.html, or by calling the Public Affairs Section at 3435-9500.
