United States High-Speed Boats for Indonesian Maritime Police

(Jakarta) U.S. Ambassador Cameron R. Hume presided today at a ceremony with Indonesia National Police Chief Sutanto in Batam, Riau Islands Province, to mark the grant of fifteen high-speed patrol boats from the United States to the Indonesian police. Ambassador Hume also signed two Letters of Agreement with General Sutanto for additional funding of police development projects totaling $6.4 million as part of the U.S. commitment to support Indonesian police reform

The high-speed patrol boats and support equipment are provided by the United States Department of Justice International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance Program (ICITAP), funded by the U.S. State Department Bureau for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement (INL). The patrol boats will be deployed in Bitung, North Sulawesi, the Bangka Straits, Batam, and Tarakan, Kalimantan to assist the Indonesian National Police in their maritime security efforts throughout the archipelago.
