Bahasa Indonesia
The
U.S. Embassy in Jakarta, in partnership with Institut Teknologi Bandung
(ITB), is pleased to announce the opening of the Architectural Glass
Slides Collection Exhibit at the ITB’s Department of Architecture.
Thirty glass slides illustrating traditional Indonesian architecture,
colonial buildings, and early
archaeological excavations in Indonesia and around Asia will be
displayed. The exhibit is sponsored by the U.S. State Department’s Fund
for Cultural Preservation.
ITB preserved and is re-utilizing the architectural archives collected
by Prof. Van Romondt, the founding father of modern architectural
education in Indonesia.
The exhibit showcases the invaluable architectural archive collection,
reconditioned by the students and faculty of the department. The entire
collection is over 80 years old and consists of 5,770 glass slides,
1,000 drawings and other culturally significant documents.
The U.S. Cultural Preservation Fund, founded in 2001, provides direct
small grants for cultural heritage preservation in developing countries.
The grant pays for the restoration of the architectural glass slide
collection as well as for training hundreds of Indonesians on glass
slide conservation and architectural education. Students and faculty in
junior and senior high schools and journalists will also be included in
the training.
The Architectural Glass Slides Collection exhibit will be open for
public viewing at ITB’s Department of Architecture on Wednesday, March
12 through March 26, 2008. Hours are Monday-Friday 09:00-17:00.
Admission is free. For additional information, please contact Dr.
