March 15, 2008 U.S. Ambassador Celebrates Indonesia’s Diversity at Gala Reception U.S. Ambassador Cameron R. Hume hosted a private reception at his residence in Jakarta to honor the March issue of National Geographic Indonesia. The event showcased elements from this first-ever, all-Indonesia edition, including a display of large-scale photography from the edition, a live pencak silat demonstration and a giant version of the magazine that opens up to the updated political map of Indonesia . Joining Ambassador Hume in commemorating this edition and celebrating Indonesia ’s natural and cultural diversity were Gramedia Chairman Jakob Oetama and ANTV President-Director Anin Bakrie. Among the VIP guests attending was co-founder of the Orangutan Foundation International, Dr. Birute Galdikas, who has appeared twice on the cover of the international edition of National Geographic.
Attended by nearly 200 guests, including National Geographic
magazine senior staff, ANTV celebrities, environmental activists,
key government officials who work on environmental issues, and members
of the diplomatic and business communities, the event featured signature
traditional dishes from throughout
Indonesia , as well as a “dessert volcano” which was specially
prepared by the Hotel Mulia for the occasion.
