U.S. 2009 Diversity Visa Lottery Starts October 3rd

Jakarta -- The U.S. Embassy is pleased to announce the start of the 2009 Diversity Visa (DV) Lottery. Also known as the “green card lottery,” winners can apply for one of 50,000 immigrant visas to live and work in the United States . The DV Lottery registration period is from October 3 to December 2, 2007, and registration is free.

Indonesia is one of eligible counties for the DV Lottery, and the U.S. Embassy encourages Indonesians interested in immigrating to the United States who meeting the minimum requirements to apply. During the 2007 DV Lottery approximately 30,000 Indonesian citizens applied for DV Lottery visas and 245 were selected as winners.

Anyone wishing to enter the lottery the 2009 DV Lottery should register online at www.dvlottery.state.gov, and include digital photos with their registration form. Applicants may submit only one entry form and paper entries are no longer accepted. There is no fee for registering for the DV lottery. Applicants should be aware that the website listed is the only valid place to register for the DV Lottery and should be cautious about companies or websites claiming they can help obtain a Diversity Visa.

Lottery and visa applicants must meet the minimum education or work experience requirements outlined in the DV-2009 instructions. Applicants are encouraged to submit their electronic entry early in the registration period to ensure registration. DV Lottery winners are selected in a computerized random drawing. These visas are available only to persons from eligible countries with low immigration rates to the United States , according to the rules of the program. Winners will be notified by regular mail between May and July 2008 and provide instructions on how to proceed.
