
U.S. Sponsors 35 Indonesians for Masters Degree Study in Applied EconomicsJuni 8, 2000 The United States Embassy in Jakarta announces that 35 Indonesians will take part in a specially designed Masters degree program in Applied Economics at Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.A. This unique 15-month program, which is funded by the
U. S. Government through the U.S. Agency for International Development
(USAID), will provide an opportunity for participants to develop their
expertise in economic principles and analysis. The program is geared
specifically for Indonesia, and places special emphasis on promoting
an understanding of economic issues related to decentralization. Courses at the Andrew Young School of Public Policy at Georgia State University will be taught by professors knowledgeable about Indonesia, including Dean Roy Bahl, Professor Jorge Martinez, and Professor James Alm. Guest lecturers will include noteworthy Indonesians and Americans speaking on key Indonesian issues such as the environment, energy pricing, trade and investment, taxation and budgeting. Program participants will also have opportunities for first-hand learning through internships at local government offices. USAID is the U. S.
